GL1100 Radio Help Needed

I am looking to add a radio to my 82 GL1100. I have the interstate, which does not have a radio. The Aspencade did, but I can not find anything on line for the interstate.

I have found radios on line, but they are clamp on the bars type speakers and such, and I would like something that does not take away from the classic look of the wing.

Any suggestions out there? Can you tell me how to do this the "right way"?

Thanks for your time and help.

For the Clarion radios which were fitted to the 1100s keep an eye on the classified section and ebay.

The installation and instruction documents can be found by following the link in my signature.

I believe there were also aftermarket installations that used a car type radio but I don't know anything about those.

Good luck.

You want to find as a complete Clarion 2 system as you can. It was stock on the 82-83 Aspencades and an option for the Interstates. I found most of the parts for mine on Ebay and some were actually new in the box components, so they are out there to be found.

Another option is a Cyclesound housing to add an aftermarket car or marine style radio with speakers.

Another inexpensive option is to just use the stock Clarion speaker boxes (to look OEM) and mount a more modern compact am/fm unit with aux input.. for example in one of the pockets.. Speaker boxes are plentiful on ebay at about $30

You can just add a water resistant marine radio to your left metal plate. Took a while but I finally found one that was small enough to not intrude into the pocket area. Mine has an AUX input for my MP3 player so I don't have to listen to Conway Twitty way out in BFE.

But, but...... it was that harsh hot metal stuff that I can't stand.

Conway was one of the best :(, I was sorry to see him leave us prematurely.
