They are definitely different. Almost anything CAN be modified to fit. If you are removing the fairing it would probably be better to locate one from a standard model '84 1200.
GL1100 Shelter on GL1200
Hi all,
I've been comparing photos of these two shelters and while there is a visible difference in that the 1100 shelter does not have the bolt tabs at the rear, a few posts here suggest that an 1100 shelter can work on a 1200 frame. Has anyone actually done this? Thoughts?

A standard 1200 shelter should also be easier to get than one for an 1100.
I am thinking it's far, far, far harder to find one for a GL1200 standard than a 1100, since they made so few GL1200 standards, compared to all 4 years of the GL1100. All the GL1100 shelters are interchangable. The 1984 GL1200 standard shelter is unique to that model and year only.A standard 1200 shelter should also be easier to get than one for an 1100.

You are correct. You can find takeoff 1100 shelters all day long on ebay. I have yet to happen across a 1200 standard. I'm patient though. There has to be one out there somewhere...I am thinking it's far, far, far harder to find one for a GL1200 standard than a 1100...

If I think about it tomorrow I will see how an 1100 false tank fits on a 1200 frame. I have no telling how many 1100 false tanks myself.
The answer is yes sort of. It will fit on there but mounting points would have to be made.
