I have an '82 GL1100 with 52,000 miles. Got it last year and did some minor mech repair and a lot of cosmetic work. looks good.

Hadn't run it but once so far this year and today at start up it blew a LOT of smoke out the left pipe. rode it a few miles and eventually the smoke went away. Since the bike was on the side stand for several weeks is oil somehow draining into the left cyls or what else might be going on.

thx to anyone offering advice.

They want do it everytime, what happens is the gap on the rings gets to the bottom of the cylinder on shutdown, rings are designed in a way to cause them to rotate on the piston in the cylinder if they didn’t then there would be a wear mark where the ends are, when the gap is near the bottom of the cylinder and oil is present it will leak through when on the center stand.
