My 81 had all the signs of needing the starter rebuilt, so I followed the excellent instructions from this forum and everything went pretty well. I did not replace the brushes because they were within spec. Basically just cleaned well and reassembled. The starter worked great, like it never had before........for about 2 days. Now it is just like it was, works but turns over slowly. Anyone else have this same experience? Are there any good aftermarket starters out there if I can't get it working right?
