GL1100 turn signals into running lights

welcome to the forum john,

i have the u.k. spec 1500, i dont have the running lights, and was thinking of adding them, ive already got the bulb socket for the double filament bulb ready to fit, but not sure on how to do it, so any answers you get should also do for me,

John, since you have an interstate, your front signals should already be functioning as running lights. You can take a look at this link below to see how to tap into the wiring on the front lights to make your rear signals into running lights.

Or, you can buy a Priority Lite converter which turns your rear signals into running lights/brake lights/signals. You can find out more by clicking here.

I had one of the priority lite converters on my bike when I bought it but one side was malfunctioning so I took it off. I am very seriously considering getting another.

I did not think it was legal to display amber running lights on the rear of a vehicle. jay

i knew that daz, thats the way i would have gone, but the trick is to get both filaments to go out togetherwhilst the indicater is flashing,

The PO of my bike switched the signal light lenses to red.

You don't need to, as the 21w indicator filament is so much brighter than the 5w sidelight, so it in effect overrides the running light.



My 97SE Canadian Edition has them like this and it's always passed its MOT (annual test - for our Transatlantic cousins!) with no problems.

get a 3inch round led red tail light like at a truck stop with a chrome ring on it hole saw out just above the turn signial lamp wire it in use chrome screws or chrome pop rivits wire it in to the brake and marker lamps that what i did because the main brake lamp isnt very bright

You can use tail light lenses from a similar year honda atv, they are red

I mounted truck LED lights in the original position. They look ALMOST stock. I installed a trailer light adapter, available at many auto stores for under 20 bucks, and now they operate as running lights, turn signals and brake lights. A bonus is the low amperage draw and they are very bright. See my avatar.

That would be a state by state issue. And a matter of enforcement as well. Each states Statutes will define what lights can and cannot be ran, minimum requirements, et al.

Just my opinion but I don't think the cops pay much attention to what color running lights are on bikes. They don't ticket people for failure to dim their headlights to oncoming traffic, they don't ticket for failure to use turn signals to indicate a lane change. I could go on and on on what cops ignore now a days but I think you get my drift.

Where did you buy them and do you have a part number for those as I'd like to do this for my bike and both the trailers I pull behind it. I also what one to replace the tail light on my sidecar when i get ready to wire it into the bike's system.

I did this conversion 4 years ago and don't remember what brand the lights are. They look very similar to these. LED truck lights. Take them out of the rubber mounts and measure and trim a little from each side, carefully drill two mounting holes and mount. I had to move the original mounting brackets out about 1/2 inch each so the holes that I drilled did not damage any electronics in the lights. For more details of how it is wired, I need to go home and look at my wiring. As stated above, I made the lights function as running, brake and turn signals. With my taillight converted to LED also it increased my visibility while cutting my amperage by 80 percent.

There are a number of vendor that sell kits to flash your brake light and turn your turn signals into running lights. This is the first I've heard of them being illegal. I've had then on my Valk for years and been from Delaware to Oregon and back w/o a ticket.

One problem with the kit I have: when it's cold it takes a while for the lights to flash.
