I gently laid my '82 goldwing down on it's left side for about 5 minutes. Now the new starter engages and gear and chain seem to be tracking OK, but the engine will not turn over. Started great before this mishap.

5 minutes on her side--- pull the plugs and see if she`ll clean her self out. (hydo lock) make sure kill switch in in the off position and stand clear too . squirt squirt

Concur, if the tank was full and the petcock open there's a good chance the downside carbs leaked into the lower cylinders. You might also check that your oil level is normal, if it's a bit high it's probably gasoline diluted. Best bet in that case is to replace the filter and oil.
