GL1200 cb radio

do i need 2 ant for cb to work on a 1986 aspencade one ant wire is cut off and cb has no out put?

No, originally there was a splitter installed on the single antenna.

Mostly the second antenna was installed for aesthetic reasons, I never noticed any improvement in either transmission or reception when I installed the second antenna.

Obviously CB purists are going to possibly argue, but all I was interested in is talking to the bikes I was traveling with and not transmitting across country :)

ok thanks must be something else wrong with cb radio then when mike keyed it says tx on radio but no out put . thanks for the quick reply

Need a little more info here.
1. I have never seen a GoldWing that came from the factory a/CB included have only a single antenna! That said, as far as I know there is not and no reason to have a "splitter" installed w/2 antennas, one being for the AM/FM, the other for the CB.
2. After market wise there are several single antenna models that do have a signal splitter included. One should look for the ones that have the CB coax straight through and the "split" goes to the AM/FM for the best CB performance.
Using one of these types makes very little difference is performance vs. having 2 antennas.
As for the one "wire"(do you mean coax cable?)being cut off, is it the CB antenna coax?
Suggest you find someone with or get a SWR meter w/the proper jumpers to hook up to the Motorola connectors used on the Wings CB coax to check it out. In the mean time, do not try to transmit until you are certain you have a working connection to the antenna. Doing so is like reving up a motor while the tranny is in neutral-Not a good thing to do!

Well we shall add to your meager knowledge of the 1200 series.

Attached is a picture of the antenna distributor which came with the CB kit on the 1200 series.

Item 63 is the antenna distributor.

Like I said I never noticed any difference adding the second antenna. I have been driving the 1200 since 1985 with the CB.

The second antenna gives a place to add another flag though.

Tricky is correct. The Hondaline CB radio came with a splitter so you didn't need two antennas. It has a couple of adjust screws so you can use an SWR to trim the antenna for both the radio and the CB.
My '86 came with an aftermarket motorola CB and a second antenna. The radio and the CB were independent. Unfortunately, you had to physically trim the antenna for the CB, so it was nine inches shorter on the left side, and quite frankly, it looked tacky.
Since then, I have installed the Hondaline CB with the splitter, I only use one antenna, and I replaced the left antenna so my "dual whips" are the same height.

So, do you have two antennas?
Is it the left that has the wire cut?
Does the radio work correctly?
What CB are you using?
Trace the cable from the "cut" antenna and see where it leads.

Tricky is right about the 1982 thru 1987 1100 and 1200 Aspencade, Sei. and Limited were sold with a Tri-Way antenna installed and the CB radios came with the splitter. Most people that added the second antenna for looks and then complained that the CB no longer had the same range as was achieved with the single antenna. The splitter had 2 tunable capacitors for the CB and AM/FM and was never set for the SWR without adjustment of the antenna and the splitter. I might add that the Kawasaki Voyager, Yamaha Venture, Suzuki Cavalcade, and Harley Ultra all used the Single Antenna with splitter for the CB but all decided they could make an extra $$$ by offering a second antenna.

could it be the spliter is hooked up wrong for the cb? just asking right side ant is hooked up to a spliter the left ant wire(coax) is cut off at the ane both wires from ant look the same like a car radio ant

Splitter is marked as to which lead is CB or AM/FM. Splitters were notorious to fail due to water damage. I always added a couple of 3/8 inch holes in bottom of faring to let the water out as the vent always lets water in. Antennas radios use Motorola style connectors. 2013 G/L still uses this type of connection.

i removed the splitter and hooked up each antenna directly to each unit and replaced the "stock" antennas with two 2 foot high Firestiks,plus the SWR was tunable down to 1.2 to 1 whereas the stock antennas best were 2.0 to 1,on road range doubled with my harley riding buds
