On my GL1200, I have gotten an exhaust leak on the right side up around the headers, it seems to be getting more and more noticeable, is that a normal place for this to happen on this bike.

Also, would this affect my mileage and performance very much

could be the crush washer where the header enters the head

It certainly will. As it developes you will notice a decrease in performance and economy. Then she will start Farting and Burping. No kidding these engines a quite sensitive to air leaks there. Once you get a few inches down the exhaust pipes themselves you can do just about anything you want but the headers need to be air tight.
