Good afternoon everyone, I have an 84 1200 Aspy which loves to backfire on closed throttle decel... It's got numerous small leaks and I have a replacement exhaust system. If I get all the consumables (gaskets) is there anything else that needs to be removed or just put it on the center stand and swap it out?

I think you have to remove the engine guards to get the exhaust off. Haven't worked on a 1200 in some time.

Backfire on deceleration can mean a bad air cutoff valve, read about it here.
While this is for a 1000 the same thing occurs on 1100 and 1200.
They cost all kinds of prices but as low as 10.00 on Ebay.

My 1200 started backfiring in the exhaust once, mechanic told me was the air cut off valve … was some holes in header at stub where the muffler clamps, made new ones & welded in place, no more backfiring.

I've looked into that, I think when I pulled the exhaust to do the starter might have introduced a leak. There might also be rust holes. I can see the leak on a cold morning. I have a spare full exhaust.
