i can't find it?

Looks like your silicon rectifier for the start circuit. Left side of the frame under the seat?

what does a main power relay
do? my interstate doesn't seem to
have one? nothing on schematic.
a local uk ebayer is selling a main
power relay. where is mine?

Generally a main power relay is used on computer controlled vehicles. It supplies power to the control unit when the ignition is turned on.
I've never heard the term associated with anything on our carb 1200 models.
My '86 surely doesn't have one.
