My buddy's Aspencade has been in the shop six weeks now with a charging system puting out 16 volts. The mech had replaced the regulator/rectifier and the battery, still reads 16 volts. My identical bike charges at 14.5 volts. We are pretty much running out of ideas. Can anyone suggest a new course of inquiry?

Bad ground to the regulator?

I'm not sure about the 1200 but on the 1100 if there is voltage drop from corrosion in the ignition or loose connections on the regulator "trigger" wire (the black from ignition)the voltage coming out the regulator can be too high.
One simple fix is to run a new wire in parallel with that wire.

Is your reading from a multi meter at the battery or on a mounted guage??

Multi-meter at the battery. He's not open again until Tuesday morning and I have printed out the ideas here to take to him. Thanks for all the ideas.
