i would check to make your stator is putting out enough to charge battery while running, check for corroded or dirty battery connections, unplug any excessive lighting. The regulator rectifier will get hot it shunts all extra voltage to ground. check the stator and plug http://www.goldwingfacts.com/GL1200Statortest.htm
