Hi all,

A few days ago I picked up a decent condition 1986 GL1200 SEi to work on as a project. My goal is to make it into a sort of oversize "cafe" bike, something cool to ride to bike nights and such. I'd seen some pics of GL's with the cafe treatment and just kept my eyes open for a good candidate. This bike got the nod.

Currently the bike will start and run but the rectifier has been removed so it will not charge itself. The stator was replaced with another high-output stator and new battery, but the new regulator that was installed at the same time was not appropriate for the high-output stator and thus burned up, melting some wiring and the battery cover in the process. I have ordered a Rick's Motorsport Electric Hot Shot Rectifier.

Once I have the bike mechanically back in order, I'll hook everything back up and see how the electronics shake out. I don't need or want any of the factory electronics or plastics, so those will be off and sold in short order. I need to know everything's condition before putting it up for sale though.

Does anyone have a good guide as to what I should try to sell these items for? Should I just parse through ebay to see what they are selling for on the open market? Could I maybe find someone with a "naked" GL who wants all of these takeoff items in one swoop? I'm getting rid of everything, fairings, electronics, auto-leveling rear, etc.

I suppose the most urgent question is did I do the right thing with the Rick's rectifier?

Chris
