Did a rebuild of the starter last year because it was cranking slow. After the rebuild, the starter worked like new. Then last week it died out of nowhere, so pulled it again and this time it's not repairable, the armature is shorted. So my question is, has anyone tried one of the $106 starters on EBay? I've seen the question asked before, but no answers.

Ive seen mention of ebay starters with plastic gears, wasn't a good mention.

For $100 bucks it may not be same armature, but compared to a new honda starter could be a good deal.
Maybe when plastic gears die, you can pull again and try moving the armature and or gears around. For future reference around here.

I still have to pull my starter this winter
Lets see, pipes, engine gaurd, probably those darn saddle bags,,,,,,
