On my gl 1200 I I am installing a poorboy alt, question is, should I disconect my old volt regulator?

If the stator is toast it probably doesn't matter but I'd unplug it anyway.

yes.unplug it and keep it on mc if you think you'll ever need it in an emergency but i doubt it,just remove and resell it

volt regulator

I removed the stator and the outer wheel, I only left the parts to the starter clutch so I wont be needing the volt reg.. good idea to sell it. I just didn't know if the rest of the bike needed any part of the regulator. thanks for the input...

I unplugged and removed the regulator/rectifier and connected to the black wire in the plug to be the exciter wire at the alternator, as suggested by another forum member. I also ran a ground wire from one of the alternator frame screws to the regulator/rectifier bracket bolt, the bolt on the bottom of the bracket that already has some wires grounded there.
