I'm replacing water pump on a 1987 gl1200 do not want any leaks, Would it be ok to us a copper coat gasket compound on gaskets

All you need is new gaskets and required o-rings. No dope! Or you're asking for problems like plugged ports.:lash:

Use a little vaseline to hold the o rings in place. I use a little "red" permatex high tach spray very stingily on the paper gasket.

i use a very,very thin coat of permatex gasket sealer on parts so thin that none comes out when the part is tightened down. on my old 1100 some of the surfaces were very pitted

If you use any Permatex make sure you have the soft setting type not the hard setting version or you'll have a lot of trouble getting the part off in the future if need be.
