What is this for it is hooked up to the head lights. I plain on removing it some time just wondered what it is for.

Headlight modulator controller? Hard to tell from that tiny picture.

If it is hooked up towards the headlamp area, does it actually do anything or do you think maybe disconnected?..perhaps some sort of "aftermarket" hi/low beam switch if the original switch is knackered?

It is hooked to the head light and one of the switches dims the light bulb but the original high/low switch works just fine. The head light does not flash like I have seen some on the road do. The back is a heat sink and it gets hot almost hot enough to burn. Not wanting my stator to go out I think I will pull it off there while the bike is apart anyway.
