GL1500 Main Fuse B “Dog Bone” 55-amp (white wire). (1990 – 2000)

1. It is located to the right of the battery and gets voltage directly from the positive
battery terminal.

2. It provides voltage (white wire) to the following:


a. The # 2 Horn/Turn (15-amp) Fuse (Powers the # 1 Horn/Turn Relay)

b. The # 3 Stop (15-amp) Fuse (Powers the # 2 Stop Lights Relay)

c. The # 5 Headlight (15-amp) Fuse (Powers the # 4 High and # 8 Low
Beam Relays)

d. The # 6 Air Pump (10-amp) Fuse (Powers the # 5 Air Pump Relay)

e. The # 8 Tail Illumination (15-amp) Fuse (Powers the # 3 Tail Main Relay)

f. The # 2 "15-amp" fuse. (Powers the # 8 ignition/cruise relay) (Only applies to the 1988 - 1992 Gold Wing's)

Note 1: The white wire also connects to the alternator. (The alternator charges the battery
via this wire)

If the battery and its connections are good, and there is no power to any of the 5 fuses listed above, check the 55-amp (Dog Bone) Main Fuse B and the white wire connections (input/output).

If you have voltage on any one of the fuses listed above, the 55-amp (Dog Bone) Main Fuse B is good.

Note 2: If your horn, turn signals, brake lights, head lights or tail “running” lights
work the 55-amp (Dog Bone) Main Fuse B is good.

Note 3: The bike will start and run with a bad "55-amp" fuse but the alternator will not charge the battery.

When the ignition switch is turned on it activates the following:

1. The # 1 Horn/Turn Relay

2. The # 3 Tail Main Relay

3. The # 4 High Beam or the # 8 Low Beam Relay (Depending on the dimmer
switch position)

4. The # 6 Ignition/Cruise Relay

When the ignition switch is turned on, you should hear four relays click (# 1, # 3, # 4 or # 8 and # 6). But with all the Tupperware installed, you may not hear all of them click.

I think the notes 1 and 2 are valid when the engine is not running. After the engine starts you will have voltage at those fuses and relays even with a bad 55A fuse, since the alternator will feed that circuit while not charging the battery. And this will mislead the people easily if they haven't made a pre-ride check. That is the tricky part that I have solved with my modification, that is, simply the engine will not start if the 55A fuse is bad.
