The venting is normal. Although it's not suppose to be audible under any circumstances. I'd replace the cap if it's in the budget.
A cap that's causing vapor lock will take some time to have any effect, and it wouldn't just be at idle. As stated, possible carb work necessary. A whooshing sound when removing the gas cap is not abnormal.
