Need some help. Alternator went the other day got it fixed but still having a problem with charging. Charged up the battery today and at idle the battery will drop to 10 or 11 volts. If I take out the fuse for the head lights it will go up to 13.5. The battery is less than a year old its a 2000 gl1500 and its a compufire alternator and a ATM battery.

Check the alternator voltage right at the output wire at the alternator end, that is to rule out any drop due to a break in the wire to the battery. If you are getting 10 or 11 volts at the alternator, it is still bad.

If you pulled out the headlight fuse and the voltage increased most likely your alternator is still suspect. The Compufire is rated at 90 amps, so you shouldn't see any reasonable voltage drop until the 90 amps is exceeded, because you are seeing a huge voltage voltage drop I'd have the regulator checked in the alternator.
