GL1500 Clutch Problems

584 Views 4 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  Spragg
I installed new clutches in my 1993 Gl1500, after that I bleed my slave cylinder but the clutch lever got really hard and I can't squeeze it. Before it was really soft and hard to get into gear, when I had it on the center stand I was able to shift through the gears but now when I shift into 1st the bike just shuts off.

If the side stand is down engine kill will occur when shifting into 1st.
Thanks for replying but the side stand was up, bike was shifting while on the center stand and after I dropped it to the ground and tried to shift into gear it would jump and shut off. Also my clutch lever is very hard and cannot squeeze in.
Check for proper alignment of slave push rod. With the slave off and caged (pliers, etc.) check for proper fore and aft movement of slave cylinder without it popping out.

If no problem with above then back into the pack.
I just got off the phone with the Honda dealer and I was told that my shift rod was in the wrong place. When I took the clutch cover off the shift rod fell out and I didn't see how it was installed and my book didn't show it or explain it. I put the spiral piece behind the clutch plate, but it needed to go into the front of the plate where the bearings are and then to the slave cylinder. Now I can see why I had a hard clutch lever because the slave cylinder would pump out but not return. Thanks for all of your help this is a GREAT DAY!!!
