1994 Goldwing 1500 Ascapade-
My cruise button would not come out so I sprayed it with WD-40 and exercised it and finally it came out-(didn't pull it with pliers or anything else) now it will not stay in-I assume switch is bad-How big of a project is it to change or is it a dealer only item to fix--Thanks Rich

You have to buy the whole switch assembly. You might be able to take it apart and fix it.
For reasons like that I never turn mine off, don't know why it even exists, no need for it. Don't need the cruise on light either, if there was no off switch the light wouldn't be there either.

Sometimes if you're persistent, maybe even let it sit for a day you can get it to stay in. Unless you're prepared for a 'battle', I wouldn't recommend pushing your 'hazard' or radio 'mute' switch either.

Use electrical contact cleaner after the WD40. WD is temporary short term.

I had the same problem on my 2000, and I used to work the switch during long rides hoping I would get lucky and it would stay in. Hundreds of tries, and no luck. Then last June I rode to Phoenix when the temperature was 112 degrees. I tried the switch then and it only took 3 or 4 tries for it to stick "on". Since then I have resolved to never turn it off again. Since Phoenix weather probably won't be available, try heating the switch with a heat gun and then trying to set it a few dozen times. Let me know if it works.

You don't say if you have separated the switch block yet. If you do you can get the contact cleaner right into the switchslide which may help. I then sprayed some silicon spray onto the plastic slide and it has been fine ever since.
