I've had my '97 GL1500 3 months now. It has 14,500 on the odometer. This past week the cruise quit working. The "Cruise On" light comes on, but the "SET" light does not & the cruise won't engage. Where do I start looking? Thanks in advance for your extertiese.....-Rich

Cruise will only set in 4th and 5th gears...

I always start by pushing "out" a little on the clutch lever to see if the clutch switch is bad (easiest to do as your ridin' at least)

This thread (very current) http://www.goldwingfacts.com/forums/forum1/79288.html does a great job of addressing the cruise system on the 1500...

And I believe it has to be between 30 and 80 MPH.

I was on the freeway over 60 mph yesterday & I could not set it. I did the push out on the clutch lever thing too

Redeye
i had the same problem, after going through all the switches and troubleshooting each one it still did not work. I tried puting upward pressure on the rear brake pedal while trying to set the cruise and it worked. I cleaned up the rtn spring on the rear brake and lubricated the spring, this allowed the spring to put enough tension on the rear brake cruise cancel switch so it would activate the cruise. Been working perfect ever since.

I had the same problem and it was the "set" switch. Squirted CRC contact cleaner at it, exercised it a few times, and it was OK.

Thanks all. I'm on the road until next weekend, then I will have a chance to fiddle with the bike. I will post here what cures my problem. Thanks again...-Rich
