Just got a 1990 GL1500 with 140k in mileage. Don't know how/who maintained this bike - but it looks fairly good so guessing it was not abused. When I sit on the bike, pull on the front brake, and rock backward/forward - there is a clunking sound/feel to the front forks, as if there is some play that is present. When I put it on the center stand and jack the front wheel off the ground and push it (front/back - left/right, while the wife is holding the bars) - there does not seem to be any play (either front/back or left right). When I gently push the wheel to the left it pivots - until it can no longer turn - then stops. When I gently push it to the right - it goes about 3/4 of the way and stops - unless I push harder - then it goes all the way. Also, when I turn the handlebars there is a 'squeaking' sound as if there is something touching some plastic part than is causing the squeaking. So, WHAT do I have - and HOW do I cure it? Many thanks!

I believe the clunking are the anti-dive units working and is normal. I can't remember how loud mine are. Too lazy to go outside to the shed in the rain. lol
My squeaking was the handlebars hitting the windshield after i moved the bars forward too much. Binding to the right could be hoses or wiring not in the right place.
