I believe I have read a posting on here that the front springs can be replaced without having to disassemble the entire fork assembly on a 1997 Gl1500 SE but not able to find it again. If anyone knows of a link to or pics of the entire process please let me know.
Thanks in advance and I have learned a lot from this forum, thanks guys and girls!

Why would you need to disassemble the complete forks? All you need to do is take off the caps. You will find plenty of posts explaininng how to do the work, just type "gl1500 forks" in the search box and you will get all you need.

Its easy (ish)

Put bike on main stand.
Put something under engine block to get front wheel off ground
Remove plastic inserts on each side of steering tunnel.
Remove plastic on top of handlebar mounts.

Losten top nut on each fork leg.

undo fork bolt, make sure it does not spring into orbit.
change fork oil
put in new springs

difficult bit is getting caps back on as under tension from springs.
Did mine several times in spring time (long story).
Helps if you have friend to push down as well.
