I purchased the GL 1500 recently after the bike had been unused for at least 7 years so I’ve been checking everything out and learning the bike. It is running pretty smoothly after using Seafoam in several tanks. I’m going to change out the plugs, fuel and air filters hopefully to improve the 28 mpg. But the thing that I’m curious about is pressure that is released when I open the gas tank. Does the gas tank have a vent or is this pressure common? Thank for your interest.

The cap has a pressure release valve in it, if it builds too much pressure it will vent. Some pressure is normal.

The cap can only let air in not out so some pressure may build. It's this way so the gas does not leak out on a tip over. I drilled a small hole in the cap of my 1000 chasing gremlins. When I dump that bike a small puddle of gas quickly forms on the ground from that vent hole. Not good !!!
