The Interstates didn't come with a radio, had to be added by the dealer or owner/mechanic at some time after original sale. The iInterstates were the no frills entry wing.
Do you have the Kenwood radio on the left fairing/pocket or the Panasonic in the center console?
Panasonic will use the same as the Aspencade.

I looked in the owners manual and it shows a pic of my radio and said it came with that radio but it is just a am fm and its the panasonic tank mount radio. I did know they didnt come with a radio so that would make sence why they say the speakers wont work on interstates

I tried it on my Interstate and it didn't work. I think it was Rudy who said the amp didn't have enough power to drive a 2nd set of speakers.

It makes no sense to build/sell a great touring bike like this and not include a radio. Who wouldn't want one? As far as the "fader", I once had a 96 which had the fader control and my 89 doesn't. I am assuming the fader was a factory option on the 96 and isn't on my 89. With that said, what does it entail to add a fader and where is a good place to get one? thanks

I might be one of the "strange ones". I very seldom turn my radio on. In fact, I might not have even set the station presets now that I think of it. If I do listen to it, it's probably a Green Bay Packer or Milwaukee Brewers game, but only in areas without much traffic/cages. I like to hear what's going on around me. Besides.....there's far too many electronic gizmos I put up with on a daily basis, and my bike is my therapy. My wife says I need it!

The OP 's question was on the Interstate model(1991-1996) which was Honda's entry model Wing, back when there were still many purists that wanted no radio (there still are those purists around!)and yes many people added radios later.(BMW still offers the touring bikes without radios) You didn't say which model you had of the 96.

Honda never installed rear speakers(and fader) at the factory on the early 1500s, nor on the Interstate or the Aspencades. They started with the handlebar fader built into the SE CB /radio controller sometime in 92-94, I have a friend who got a 92 SE last year but the fiche shows no fader nor CB control on the the handlebar on the SE into 92. With the Interstate and Aspencade, the rear speakers and fader were options only.
