GL1500 interstate to SE conversion. Loom assistance required

I have purchased a 94 GL1500 Interstate. It has in the main been converted to SE spec (excluding reverse/cruise) with SE radio and LCD instrumentation included.

The area that I need help in is that the existing Interstate fairing harness has been used and butchered to fit the SE instruments connecting blocks. Obviously the interstate didn't have LCD so they are not wired in. It is my understanding that the LCD displays clock and radio channels.

Does anybody know

a) if this is modifiable

b) If not whether I can just fit an Aspencade/SE fairing harness to the existing interstate loom or

c) Will I need to completely rewire with Aspencade/SE wiring loom/fairing harness.

If anybody is local to Bristol and would like to have a look please feel free otherwise all help gratefully appreciated.

Welcome Steve and happy Halloween. :pumpkin:
If I understand you correctly, you have the radio and LCD from the SE fitted into your Interstate. If the radio is working with a modified Interstate loom then thats a fair achievement.
I have seen a couple of Interstates done like you are thnking about. I asked one owner (he was from Wales) how he had done it and he told me that he had got hold of part of the loom from an SE (from the radio console up to the fairing) and done the job himself. I looked at the wiring diagram for the SE and I can see how it makes sense, if you get hold of a loom with the connector blocks then it's not as major a job as I would have thought at first.

Thanks Jason,

Happy halloween to you too.

My problem really lies in the fact that as far as I can make out the interstateradio connection has not been modified and fits straight into the back of the radio.

The fairing harness looks as though it has been half coupled with the correct electrical blocks for the instrument panel although I'm puzzled as to why this would have been done rather than using the complete aspen/SE harness and working it back to the radio. I'm pretty sure the existing interstate harness would not have functioned as there was no LCD display on it.

The guy who owned it previously basically left it up to JG wings to sort but, unfortunately, it would appear their mechanic left as it was nearing completion.

I'm not really sure where I need to be starting whether to do a complete unnecessary rewire or whether there is one small additional part that I can purchase. It looks like the fairing harness route would have been favourite except it would appear the connection between the interstate and the aspen/SE for loom connection are different.

All help assistance still gratefully accepted
