This evening I filled the tank on my 1500. It was last filled just prior to riding a 156 miles with a local group last weekend. We were on back roads and some one laneroads traveling fairly slowly, mostly around 50mph or less with about 35 miles of freeway that varied from a few moments at 95mph to a cruising speed of 70mph. My mileage for this tank was 46.8 mpg. Quite a bit different than the average mileage I got going to and from Montrose. On that run the speeds were often above 70mph and often bucking headwind. The average for the 2600 miles on that trip was around 38mpg. A couple of fill ups achieved less than 34mpg. Just goes to show the effect of high speed running and wind.

Oddly enough I filled the tank on my Silverwing and got about 46mpg. Mostly around town with a bit of fast running on the freeway. Considering that the scooter has half the displacement and just a wee bit over half the weight the Goldwing looks pretty good. I suspect my enjoyment of twisting the throttle hard on the scooter and the reduced efficiency of the CVT is what makes it less efficient over all than the big 'Wing.

Paul, I will have to say, you had a lot more patience on that last ride than I normally have. :waving:

But then, nearly all of my riding has been in the rush hour crap of idiots running 75+ in the morning rush, and 0-12 mph stop 'n go rubber banding jumps in the evening slug 'o wars.

Hard on mileage, I always averaged about 33+. The only longer trips were running 80+ all the way, we all know how much wind those big windscreens block off of our heads. My San Diego to Phoenix run offered me 27.3 mph

On my recent trip to the mountains of NC, I averaged about 42.5 mpg and got as much as 46mpg on one stretch.

Most riding was 60 mph or less on the way up. Around the twisties, only about 35 mph average.

Not bad hauling a fat boy like me!

I'm averaging 42mpg on my '99. Curiously, before I switched to Amsoil, my average was more like 46mpg. That was on Motul. Wouldn't have thought oil would make that much difference.

My '90 averages about 38 - 40, two-up....average speed 60 -65 mph.

On our trip back in september we drove a total of 1860 mi, back roads and Interstate, (mostly hilly to mountainous terrain) pulling a "VERY" loaded trailer and averaged about 33 -35....wayyyy better than any cage we have.

On a trip this summer to Idaho on our 93. Two up, bike loaded pulling trailer 4,500 miles.

Interstate below 70 mph: 35 mpg.

Interstate at 70 mph: 32mpg

Interstate above 70 sometimes 80 to 85mph: As low as 25 mpg.

Best mileage was in the mountains and twisties.

With trailer and speeds varying between 20 and 60 mph: 35 to37 mpg.

Without trailer, two upand bike almost empty. Round trip from Boise to Missoula, Mont and back to Boise. 400 + miles. Speeds varying from 20 to 60 mph:

My 93 / 48.6

Brother's 06 1800 / 49.5

Friends 2008full dress Harley?? / 51.5

I've gotten 26-56 mpg on longer rides. The grades in the Rockies or2up + trailer, or both, make much less difference than the winds. Those headwinds kill my mileage.

If Iaverage close to 40 mpg, round trip, I'm VERY happy.

I averaged about 45-47 MPG ( Imperial Gallon) 2 up on our trip to Shediac New Brunswick this summer. My friend on his Harley 6 speed was well over 50.

We were quite pleased.

Ijust topped off the tank and figured in at 62+ mpg, but that wasn't on a Wing - mixed city/hwy.

Sorry, but I thought there would be humor in there somewhere :)

It was humorous, but I had to go back and read to find your reference.... then I woke up and saw your signature line.

:cooldevil: But, you have your head in the wind and you are still enjoying being on two wheels. there are a lot of us who are looking into that also.
