I mount mine about there, a bit closer up to the key though, I don't want it on the door itself. I used sticky velcro. I don't look at mine much. I generally know the roads I need and just use GPS to tell me when I am getting to a turn so I don't miss it, or when I have to make 20 turns to get through some city streets.

My GPS is an older one that was given to me so not as many features as some newer ones.
One feature it does have I think is a necessity myself is it speaks the road names to turn onto. When this one got soaking wet in a major storm and stopped working I bought a new one for about $100 on sale. Worse thing I ever bought and it was returned for a refund when I got home.
The new one only said stuff like turn right in 0.5 miles but did not tell you the road. Several times I got into an area where 2 or 3 roads met to the right and no idea which to turn onto, just turn right!
Luckily my old one worked again once it dried out so I still use it!

I did check the manual also for the new one I had bought, nowhere was there anything about turning on street names as an option, though it had lot's of useless stuff I could do with it.
