when changing the rear end oil does the exhaust pipe have to be dropped down out of the way? i tried to change it Sunday but could not get to the plugs, is there a secret way to do it, my manual says just pull the plugs and change the oil - nothing said about the pipes!

On my 1500 I have to remove the rear muffler bolt and loosen the front clamp bolts and tilt the muffler down.

I didn't loosen muffler at all. Just drained it and refilled. Having a bottle pump greatly reduces messes and frustration while refilling. All auto parts stores sell a pump that attaches to the gear oil bottle.

Don't have to. You just have to get up under there with your (16mm?) wrench. Take the fill plug out first to be SURE you can get oil back in it. I have one of those pumps on a jug of gear oil. Thread it up in and pump it until it runs out the fill hole. Anything you move/remove just gives you more room.
Well- I really just do mine annually when I pull off the rear plastic/wheel for greasing.

Put your bike model info in your signature and you will not have to remember it later on future posts.
