GL1500 side cover mounting pins replace

i need replacment pins for the side covers on a 1500. i think they do make replacements i thought i saw them when i didn't need them and can't seem to find them now does anyone know where to get some without cutting them off other side covers anyone else make new ones for their bike i have a lathe and milling machine and have thought to try and make some any thoughts on best material

One of our members is making shelter pins.

His signature line mentions that.

Shelter pins are for the false tank cover on the GL1000 only...... So that's no help for you...

I saw someone had made the replacement posts for the GL1200, I thought. Molded from plastic. Can't recall if it was here or on ebay.

Almost any material will work, except anything soft like cotton candy, bubble gum, etc.. Just has to stay attached to the cover and stay inside the grommet.

Okay, here they are for the GL1200:

Same procedure for making them on the GL1500, just have to have some good tabs for molding.

I made my own from a 2 part epoxy putty. The hardest part is to make sure you get the tab in the right place,. Once it hardened up it was stronger than the original. I used a dremel tool to shape it a little after it was hard. If you use your imagination you can do anything. Hope this helps. Jim
