I have an intermittent squeal coming from the front of my engine and the local bikeshop thinks its one or both of the timing belt tensioners. He suggests fitting new ones. I'm not a cheapo owner but I'm curious if putting new bearings in the pulleys will stop the squealing, or if this can be done (I can get bearings quite cheap). Any input appreciated.

Sorry Joe but that won't work. The pulleys are sealed and you would have to butcher them to get the bearings out. You will just have to fork out the wedge for new ones, better to replace as a set and fit new belts while you are at it.

I seen one of these adjuster wheels "opened" once for repair. Needless to say it didn't go back on th engine as it was scrap by the time it was opened. Wasn't me who did it I hasten to add!
