set a fan up to blow some air around the bike would help, the faster you could get it running and riding the better.I get caught in the rain while riding and i do wash my bikes, so 5 minutes of water is not going to kill it.I would change the gear lube too.
I agree to a point.
But I am sure you been out in the rain a few times for 5 minutes or so and pretty soaked right. How about I hold your head under water for 5 minutes
See the difference.

Just joking of course, but you see my point right?

Took the bike in to the dealer today to have carbs rebuilt. I don't have the time right now to mess with it and at least I know it will be done right. They said I may have it back saturday. Did find out from my insurance company that had I had insurance on it they would have totaled it. So that wouldn't have helped me either. Probably 1500 tops is all insurance would pay.
I got $3350 and kept the bike for my 88 with about $1k busted extra's from that deer hit last year, but I don't think they really gave me anything much for my extra's as I had to argue allot over not having receipts for them.
So much for automatically covered!
Remember, if you get gifts make sure you get the receipts for them too or insurance won't want to pay for them when busted!:lash:

Although my bike was in excellent condition before the deer hit it, they claim it wasn't because it had 180K miles showing! If less miles I'd probably have got more.

Though not happy at all, figuring I paid about $350 maybe a year for full coverage I still came out ahead getting the $3350 compared to getting nothing if it had not been covered at all!

I have Progressive insurance and had an issue with theft. My policy gives me the cost of bike plus $3k in accessories. No receipts and they took my research on parts cost. The adjuster verified my numbers and paid out a higher amount yet! Progressive has my business! With 3 quads, two trailers and a Goldwing insured by them, they better do me right.
Sounds like a good deal.
I felt screwed by Geico so dropped them on several vehicles and put my 95 full covered onto Progressive and 82 1100 also but only just liability to be legal riding it. I've not rode the 82 for near 2 years but around the house to keep it running but I just put collector plates on it recently so will be riding allot more when this rain stops and ! get work caught up.

For my Deer hit March 2012, Geico could not send an adjuster to look at my bike, not one within 6 hours of me for the days drive.
Forget the LIES they tell in their ads, You CANNOT make an appointment to see an adjuster! They just flat out LIE when they say you can with one simple call and a few minutes time!
I offered to haul my 88 on my own trailer with my own truck at my own expense to anywhere like Springfield, MO. where they DO have adjusters.
I was told they CANNOT make appointment's, the adjusters just run around helter skelter doing what they want when they want and appointment's cannot be made to meet with them.
So when I say they LIE I mean just that, Bald faced LIARS!

Then they give that crap about automatically covered for up to $2k for extra's. BULL, they argue they want receipts. Who has receipts for gifts? I still suffered the same loss of about $1k of extra's that I no longer have even if they were gifts! I no longer have them do I?? So much for that lie of being automatically covered!

Then there is the ridiculously low price of my bike as a total! Kelly and Nada still say my bike is worth over $4K today! About $4500
I got a crappy $3350 for it as a total, that was after deducting the $200 to keep it.
So near $1k loss in extra's, a $4500 bike in near mint condition when hit by the deer, I should have got close to $5K.
Do I feel screwed over?? :lash::lash:

The only saving grace with Geico for me right now is about $700 in refunds on my premiums I already paid!
I had kept paying the full coverage on the 88 all that time even though I could not ride it. I got refunded back to the time I bought the 95 and added it in April 2012. I could have gone back a few weeks earlier even to March 15th but that would have canceled my policy and I'd ave lost discounts so it would have cost me in the long run to get back the extra, so was better to cancel it at time I added the 95.
That was a $167 check in my pocket and also covered the payment that was due in 10 days at that time for 88 liability only now and 95 full.

I canceled the insurance on my 95 the other day, they called Progressive and verified I had been carrying both policies since April this year, so I'm getting back $320 from Geico effective from April, Not when I just called this week.

So now I only have plain minimum Liabilty with Geico for the 88, that is just a little more than it should be, so I will probably cancel it soon also and put it on Progressive, and with 3 bikes at progressive the 88 should cost me far less!

Only reason I am not doing that just yet is I do both MO. and AR. and Geico is for MO. and I have Progressive for AR. and the 88 is registered now in MO for over a year still! Soon as I find the Title, kinda lost somewhere here right now, I will transfer the title to AR and get Antique tags on it for a total cost of about $17, then I will put it on Progressive with the 82 and 95 or I will go with American Collectors.

I'll keep Geico for the Liability only on my other stuff like cheap vans, cars, trucks, because if I ever cause an accident and a court orders them to pay they have no choice. They have the best rates for that.
Screw me once though, and I move on elsewhere, so they probably will not be getting anymore full coverage premiums from me on anything.

I think they said I been with them over 12 years now with vehicles, and 4 with bikes. I pay about $1k a year more or less over the years for all I insure, and for certain around $10k or more, and they tossed that away just to screw me over this one and only claim I have ever had.
So to save maybe $2k in payout they toss away $10k business in pay ins!
And we wonder why businesses fail eventually!

They could have gave me even $6k, still made over $4k profit on what I have paid in, and then kept my business on everything another 10 years or so.

Yes, only reason I am not moving my autos to them yet is price is a bit high.
Looks decent when they show the rates online, but look close and there is a 1 time discount for changing companies!
I want to know my yearly rate always, not just the first 6 months with some special one time only discount!

I did find calling in though that an on the phone agent may be able to do better on the rates than the online estimate. I think the gal I talked to saved me another $75 or so on my bikes.
So I may call in for estimate on my auto rates, if they can at least come close to matching Geico on a fullt time basis the they may get al my vehicles other than what I put on American Collectors soon.

American Collectors is by far the best rates on Antiques and collector stuff, and with agrees value too. I think it was $5k value on my 82 Porsche I was looking at for $95 a year including liability towing, and covers $500 in spare parts too. The Shelby Daytonna at about $5k same coverage I think was $100 a year.
Bikes are only supposed to be ran 2500 miles or less a year, and cars/trucks to events or a nice drive, etc.. and about 15 of mine I store but don't use fall into those uses!

Picked up my bike today and it just screams down the highway. Runs better than before the flood. Total cost at dealer was 1209$. They discounted labor a hundred bucks and paid for all shipping on parts(next day air). So my total was 1560 with my parts and the dealer trip minus the 500$ from my company for reimbursement. So I am out of pocket a grand but it sure runs nice. Maybe this was overdue and the flood sped things up? Either way its back home and I am riding again.
Thanks for all your words of encouragement and the nay sayers-well I guess you were wrong, it was worth it to me to keep the bike on the road and I guess that's what really matters.
yep, that's what matters!
I missed a page or so and have to read those, but why only $500 from insurance? Or was the $500 from work? What about your insurance, did you have full coverage, I forgot now but been looking at thread. Have to go back and read read it.
