Someone told me that the exhausts on the 1800 are stainless steel and I may also have read this on forums as well. How come they are chromed then? I thought that stainless couldn't be chromed, and they sure have to be chromed because stainless never comes up as shiny as chrome, unless I'm missing something or talking crap as I'm not long in from the pub!

I saw these on an episode of Trucks! on Spike TV. Yes, they do chrome over stainless. Chrome stays shiny far longer than stainless.

Here's a pic of the stainless pipes I built for my 84 Aspencade, have a close look and see if they look as good as chrome.

SS for corrosion resistance, chrome for looks. SS can be chromed just fine.

Polished SS just isn't quite as shiny as chrome.

Eric, the mufflers on the 1800 ae stainless, the chromed parts you see are just ordinary chromed steel welded over the stainless mufflers. The exhaust extensions are chromed steel as well.

Use a magnet to check it out, most alloys of stainless are non-magnetic. That's also a good way to separate SS screws from steel ones in your junk box too.:waving:

It's just the mufflers on the gl1800 that are stainless. The downpipes and the chromed covers are steel. Honda should have made the covers bolt on/off because they will rust eventually anyway while the stainless mufflers will stay intact.
