I just converted my 2006 GL1800 to HID and there is a buzz in the headset.

No relationship to engine speed
Nothing to do with intercom
Present without regard for audio source
Have EC ground loop isolator
Most pronounced in headset (tightly sealed ear buds)

Now here is the big one;

Gets 100% worse when you engage the cruise control - this repeatable and not subtle at all. Once cruise is engaged the buzz is FAR worse.

. What's the numeric volume level? A load across the headset output, thus requiring higher volume setting will normally make that noise minimal, or gone away. That is, if you are running the volume real low, as most earbuds require. Maybe try an inline volume control, then set it to low or no sound, then crank radio volume up. Radio shack has one that plugs into 3.5 mm stereo circuit.

take the headlight fuse out and make sure that it is this that is causing it and not something that you may have disturbed while fitting the HID s

Update:

Very annoying buzz only happen when drive the motorcycle. If sitting still running or not, no buzz. This is definately new.

There are cables leading to the rear audio that are unshielded and lay across the top of the cruise module. I had this buzz, slight but annoying which was noticebly associated with the cruise control locking onto a speed. I assumed it to be a data stream used by the stepper motor inside the cruise bleeding into those audio cables. My solution was to bend a little sheet metal to make a box covering the cruise module, then grounded that to the frame ground block near the rear brake reservior. Seemed to help.

Wexy: Thanks - it was not the HID's. I had assumed it was since I just installed them.

Oregonwinger: Thanks. The RS device you mentioned masks the problem at the expense of volume. Its livable for now. For audiobooks you can hear a slight buzz when no one is talking and ever so slight otherwise but 1000% better.

MichiganWing: Can you tell me where this cruise module is located? I am not a mechanic but I have changed the air cleaner (I did not enjoy this experience).

There is still whine in the Zumo GPS (which is also XM and Audiobooks) that does not exist in the FM radio. I am using a EC ground loop isolator, any further recommendations?

I replaced the volume control with a inline filter I bought from Amazon and while it seems to work on the same principle, trading volume for reduced noise, it works better. Almost all the noise is gone and I run the radio on 19 instead of 10.
