You are correct, there is no reason to remove the lower cowl. Oil change is a 10 minute job.

I'm getting ready to do the first oil change on my new 2008 GL1800. The owners manual suggests removing the lower cover. I can get the oil filter wrench on without removing it and don't see a reason to remove it. Am I missing something?
