What does your GL1800 say when you turn the key on and off? This is what mine does!

I removed the battery and lost this programming so when I replaced the battery I had to re-program it!

No secret!

Here is how!

CUSTOM PROGRAMMING THE GL1800'S OPENING CEREMONY

(Note: For the following steps, "Press" means 'press and release'.)

1. Turn ignition key to ON or ACC, and wait for the normal screen display after the opening ceremony.

2. Press (press and release) the MODE button three times.

3. Simultaneously 'press and hold' the TRIP and DISP buttons for atleast two full seconds, and then release.

4. Press the MODE button.

5. Press the DISP button. You should now see the word "SPECIAL!". If not, turn OFF the ignition key, and start all over.

6. Press the TRIP button.

7. At the prompt "Change OK?", press the MODE button.

8. You should now see a 12-character line, with the cursor at the left end. Use the TRIP button to cycle through the available characters until you find the one you want (letters, numbers, blank, and some others).

Note: You cannot back up when cycling through the characters! If you pass the one you want, you'll have to cycle around to the desired character again.

9. When the desired character appears, press the DISP button to move the cursor to the next space to the right. The
cursor moves only to the right, and then wraps from the right end back to the left end.

10. When the desired 12 characters have been selected, press the MODE button to store the selected characters into memory.

Now turn the ignition key to OFF while watching the display screen. You should see the words "SEE YOU!", with your 12-character line just underneath. When you turn the ignition key to ON or ACC, you should see "HELLO" and your 12 character line, and then a message saying "Welcome to the Gold Wing World".

The above steps should get you started, but a little experimenting may still be in order.

No, I have no idea why Honda hasn't told us about this. I discovered this after Jim mentioned that they'd seen one
with a custom display, so I went looking for a way to do it Who knows? There may be even more features like this that we haven't discovered yet.

It took me about 10 times before I got it right and even now I have to read these instructions every time I re-do it!

My Gold Wing is a 2002 so it does not have navi!

I read this post.

Even though it said GL1800 only.

I only have an 1100. Is this what the extra 700cc's do for you??

U crasey guy? It`s a world in betwine what U`ve got, and the 1800...
The 1100 has got a single tube steel frame, woobling front, and all that goes with it( charm for instanse) :)
The 1800 has got selfcarriyin engine, deltabox frame, forwarded engine, stiffer fork, and stiffer back. Lower highth, and therefor better handling... Alltoghetgher the 1800 are as much as a"R" cycle as an older mann can handle, but still with no effort, and thererfor and ideal substitute for a lack of refelekeses...
No offens, guy`s, but that`s how it feels.
I`ve been driving LOT`S o` bikes, but none comes close to 1800 GL`S... Easy, and well.... As in a compliment...

Not really - there are many things over the GL1100. I had one and it would not handle like this -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0nrMQ3QwyPo

The extra cc's make it handle like Yellow Wolf on the Dragon!

 :clapper:

If you have an 1800 with navi, the ceremony can be set per instructions on P77 of the navi manual. You are allowed 17 characters. You get the same characters opening and closing.

Charm is important.

The 1100 has a nice headlight.
