With it being a new to you bike the kill switch may have been accidentally pushed. With the engine running, very slowly turn the kill switch in both directions and note the distance it takes to kill and see if it will stick there between the detents.
GL1800 stalled
just got a 2001 with 13000 miles on it, after a 75 mile ride it died at a red light and would not start for 10 mins. it was like i had hit the kill switch, any one have this happen?

You might want to clean the starter switch and the kill switch.
Early 2001 models had a recall for the kill switch. Not all owners bothered to get the recall done so that could very well be your problem.
