Grinding sounds more than likely means your starter motor needs to come out for a strip down.
GL1800 starter trouble
My 2002 Honda gold wing 1800 gl won't start, has a new battery only 6000 miles makes an awful grinding sound, what can I do

Has it been starting and did this all at once,or a new to you bike that you bought this way? i would not think with only 6000 miles much could be wrong with it.
Could be the starter clutch , but wery unlikely with 6000 miles.
