I own an 05 1800 and would like to find out what kind of a socket do I need to remove the steering head nut and where besides the dealer I could purchase it.

Cyclemax has the socket on their site for $98 but you can make your own. Goldwingdocs explains how to make one. I made one a couple of weeks ago but I haven't used it yet. Waiting for parts. I bought the socket off of Amazon for $20 and used a dremel with a reinforced cutting disc to shape it.
Sorry about that I forgot to say it's a 36mm socket but the gurus might have some better or different ideas. And welcome to the site. THE best site with helpful and friendly people.

The 4-prong castellated nut is the same size as the 1500's ... I believe there are several threads here on where to get one (or make one) -- there shoudlbe 1 or 2 in the loaner program as well (http://www.goldwingfacts.com/forums...loaner-program-steering-nut-removal-tool.html)
If you are going to tighten or replace the bearings. You will NEED a TORQUE WRENCH also.
