Hello and welcome to the forum. The smallest engine on a Goldwing is (was) 999cc. They came in undressed versions up to 1984. You need to have a read of the Wings history, it will explain everything you want to know:

there was a silver wing which came in I think both a 550 and 600 version. Never really sold well as it was pricey and the cx engines had a lot of vibration. It was sort of like paying almost as much for 1/2 the bike.

I had a cx500 which I added a fairing and bags, was a great around town bike but would kill you on a 500 mile day

I am not sure what you are asking , but I seem to remember 1975-77 seeing a couple of 550 Silverwings,,,but I don't know what other years or models Honda had a 550cc engine...some of the other guys may know....

I recall "The Silver Wing" had a 550cc and as in "Brojees" picture the "Cylinders" were on a wierd angle simlular to the "Moto Guzzi" and it was an "Excellent" bike, almost bullet proof as far as not having any problems!

type "Honda Silver Wing" into google's search engine (Box) or try "Delphi forums", Register and type in "Silver Wing" in their search box!

I believe the Silverwing only came in 500cc GL500and 650cc GL650, both turbocharged. It had the reputation of being underpowered and died a quiet death around 1984. Look for the CX 500 for more data on the actual engine, etc. It's an 80deg v twin mounted transverse. Twists the bike over with it's torque just like a Guzzi.

I like them, but I am the rare bird here who likes Moto Guzzis as well.I had to laugh at the vibration issue!! Goldwing riders are so spoiled on vibration, even a CB750 would "Shake us to death".

Side and top carriage things? You mean the bags and the trunk? If you have seen a bike without those and the fairing, you are most likely looking at a CX and not a GL, Hey post some pictures so we can see what you have.

they did have one glitch, the ignition pulser part of the alternator would go making for an engine removal and replacment of the alternator and/or pulser). If I remember the part cost me about $200 and I did the labor myself. otherwise they were nice running bikes. I sold my '81 cx500c with vetter fairing and krauser bags for about $800 two years ago, and it had about 45,000 miles on it

The Silverwing only came with a CX500 engine, but tha Japan market ones also came in a 700cc version of the CX engine.

Here is the link to a CX500 forum, they may be able to give you more info on the Silverwing:

Greenmotorcycler,

Go to "google" and type in "Honda silver wing"

And go to "pg 2" and scroll down to (Honda GL500/650 SilverWing Internet contact Group) click on it and then click on to "Forums" !

There were a pair of them sold in Belleview, WA a month or so ago on eBay; they were a 550 and a 650. One had the travel gear on it and the other had a more racy looking seat. Nice looking bikes, they both went for less than $600 each if I remember right.
