Hi! folks have been working on my old 1200 and have a grinding noise which seems to be coming from the diff. whenI engage the clutch the noise goes away. Have checked the diff oil seems to be a silver colour and has what appears to be tiny flecks of metal in it. any idea as to what might be the cause and what would be the cure, regards Bob in Oz

hello Bob, long time no hear. :waving:

That silvery color worries me a bit.

If it were mine, I would suction all of the old diff oil out, put in some fresh, run it a bit, and suction all of that out, and put in more fresh oil.

Then monitor it a bit to see how it does, noise and color.

That oil doesn't look good. You might be lucky and just have a worn bearing in the final drive, they are easy to get and to replace.
