I have a question about the charging system on a 1986 Goldwing FI.

Actually the bike belongs to my buddy and his battery is being over charged, think he said was charging about 15.4 volts or so. Evidently someone told him there was a way to put a by pass of some sort on the black wire to make the rectifier not chargeat such a high rate.

Does anyone know anything about that? And is that a fix or just a temporary fix?

I have read through several pages of the tech section and the change over to the alternator looks like quite a good fix for the whole Stator/rectifier setup on the goldwing.

Thanks for reading,

By the way I am a Yamaha Venture rider but don't throw stones at me:)

overcharging is usually a regulator problem... what did he use to check the voltage? I don't know of any by-pass.

the 1200's did have trouble with stators (usually it was the early 1200's) another "weak link" on the early wings was the three yellow wire connector coming from the stator, most have just simply clipped the connector off and soldred the wires together
