I have to go to Scottsdale to get my condo ready for some folks who will be renting it in feb. Having the time, I decided to leave a day early and on Friday have rented a wing for the day. Any suggestions for a good SAFE route to lay on about 6 hours of riding? I get a max of 400 miles before I start paying by the mile.

Let me know you locals, and if anyone can join me Friday, that would be good too:leprechaun:

Pay by the mile?? Yikes.

I rented a Harley in Reno, and 4 days later brought it back with 1100 miles. N/C to me.

I only pay for the milage beyond 400. I think 400 miles around here should be enough. I doubt that i will go over the 400.

You said you would be in Scottsdale, so here's a couple of thoughts.

1) A ride out to Bartlett Lake - north, out Scottsdale road, to Cave Creek road, then North/East to Bartlett Dam road, then South/East to the lake. You can spend sometime having lunch dinner, shopping in Carefree

2) A ride out to Saguaro Lake - North, out Scottsdale road, to Shea, then east to Hwy 87, then North/East to Bush Hwy, then South/East to the Lake. There's a casino along the way.

3) A bit longer ride - about 90 miles one way - North, out Scottsdale road, to Shea, then east to Hwy 87, the North/East to Payson. Payson's up near what is called the Mogollon Rim. About 6-7000 foot level, so its a bit colder then Phoenix. Running highs in the mid 60's and lows in the mid 20's right now. Might be a bit cold for you, but the ride would be more enjoyable than the desert around PHX.

PM me if you want and we can exchange phone numbers and talk about it a bit if you would like.

WOW…double whammies.

Not only did I see some great stuff and ride 300 glorious miles taking in most of the suggestions you all gave me, but the GL1800 is scary smooth and powerful. I hit resume on the cruise from about 45 mph while it was set at 65 and it really felt like I had kicked a horse in the butt with a spur. The roads and weather were all in great shape. I stopped at Tortilla flats and met two folk with modulators. I asked where they had bought them and was very proud at the response. They had nothing but great things to say. I also ran into a dude up the apache trail who was on another GL1800 who was wearing only shorts and flip flops. Memories of my thanksgiving “mistake” rang in my head and I had to think to myself, that even though he was a great guy, he was very stupid.

I must say, as much as I like the 1800, I prefer the control layout of my 1500.

This turned out to be the best idea I had all week, and I have had a few. Thos who own this beast are lucky indeed. I can’t wait until I can count myself amongst them.
