GoldWing Light Parade at Blackpool Illuminations

Blackpool Borough Council has once again extended an official invitation to all GoldWing riders to stage a Light Parade through the Illuminations on Saturday September 3rd 2005.

This year it is in celebration of the 125th anniversary of the electric light bulb, and by all accounts the parade will be the only event being staged on the night.

A special weekend deal has been arranged at Pontin's for Wingers who wish to arrive on Friday and stay in the area until Sunday.

Full details can be found at the parade's dedicated website: http://www.goldwings.org.uk/

Last year's parade was awesome with 103 wings (including 2 from Ireland), but Bob Summers (the organiser) is hoping for even more this time (and says "we might as well tell the council to turn off the Illuminations this year!").

I did this eventlast year travelling over one day and back on the next ferry after the event. It was hard work heading back for the ferry in the early hours but it was worth it. I can honestly say this was the most amazing experience I have had on my wing so far. Well over 100 wings, fully lit up going up and down the golden mile in Blackpool with crowds lining the pavements cheering us on. I can't wait until this year's event and the offer of cheap accomodation at Pontinshas certainly made this a much better and more attractive event. Pontins would need to be booked now as it will be very popular during this weekend. I would definately recommend this run to anyone who likes to pose. It would give Wexman a great chance to shine with all those extra lights on his new 1800.

Spoke to Pontins today and booked a room. They said they are going fast so anyone wanting accommodation would need to be quick off the mark.

Wonderful Ciaran!

I imagine most people will arrive Friday afternoon, and as Blackpool is famous for its ....err... evening entertainment activities, I wondered whether we should ask Bob Summers to arrange a trip to some "cultural events" on Friday night?

Maybe the ladies could go to Chippendales or some other posh club suitable for their particular requirements, and us guys could go to one which caters for our more refined tastes and also allows us to update our biology knowledge? What do you think?

:shock:If you can't escape the bosses, 'Funny Girls' is a great place for a show. It's not a drag show. Last time wewent they even did 'River Dance'. It's all standing unless you pay for a box.

Well worth it

Already spoken with the powers that be in Blackpool, they said a load of Irish bikers holds no fears, its the Scots weeks that fill them with dread.:shock::shock:

Looking forward to a big turn from you guys, we are going to have one hell of a time

Agree with you, Funny Girls is the best £5.60 you will spend for a caberet show, they are now housed in the old Odeon Cinema and the venue is outstanding, must see this if you fancy a wild night out.

Working on the route the Light Parade should take in September.
Last year we progressed North from the Cenotaph to the roundabout at Gyn square around the island and then South along the promenade, did everyone like the idea of seeing the rest of the parade go round the island or what?
and should we include it again this year?
Also, how do you fancy coming off the promenade for a short time where it is a little darker to show off the lights a bit more. Just a thought,
but i reckon we could get the entire route lined with spectators.
What do you think?

Pontins have Confirmed that all Goldwings can park in the Central Staff Car Park.
This area is secure and will have 24 hour roving security patrols
whilst the bikes are on site. Normally vehicles are expected to park outside the camp to avoid congestion and as a safety precaution. Ive had a look at it and the facility looks good.

Colin Appleyards have booked shop space and accomodation at Pontins and confirmed they will be on site for the duration of the Light Parade Weekend.
They will no doubt bring plenty of chrome goodies
and I have been reliably informed by Barry they will also have some illuminations of their own.

Support like this makes all the difference! :clapper:

Hi Steve

I have been asking around and I think we will have a huge turnout for this one ,,Because there are so many hotels in Blackpool ,we wont have a problem finding a bed ,,I will get working on it as soon as we come back from the French treffen ,,I think we could have 30 to 50 bikes on this one ,,We will go over on the early ferry on Sat morn from Dublin and return on sun evening ferry ....So watch the events board for info ...

Also dont forget we have the weekend away to Limavaddy to the GWOCNI birthday bash at the end of june ,Again when I come back from France I will get that organised ...cheers Ciaran

Cairan the Birthday bash should be a good weekend. Plans are well in hand so all we need is a good turnout of owners. Remember that a wing owner can bring a mate along on a non-wing as long as he doesn't bring his local Harley Club with him. Protax Puncture Sealant system will be at the event. The raffle prizes are looking very good with some excellent items donated locally.

I got my recall notice this morning for the 1800. Managed to make Guy from Honda feel a little guilty so I used the excuse to ask him for some sponsership at the event. With luck he says he may be able to help out. Never miss an opportunity that presents itself.

Hi John ,,all our friends have wings only :D:D:Dand if the guy from HONDA wants to give a prize ,,how about a welding kit ?:gunhead:

only joking ...We are looking forward to the event and I will get the whip out and get as many as possible on the run ..cheers Ciaran
