GoldWing Light Parade at Blackpool Illuminations

Blackpool Borough Council has once again extended an official invitation to all GoldWing riders to stage a Light Parade through the Illuminations on Saturday September 3rd 2005.

This year it is in celebration of the 125th anniversary of the electric light bulb, and by all accounts the parade will be the only event being staged on the night.

A special weekend deal has been arranged at Pontin's for Wingers who wish to arrive on Friday and stay in the area until Sunday.

Full details can be found at the parade's dedicated website: http://www.goldwings.org.uk/

Last year's parade was awesome with 103 wings (including 2 from Ireland), but Bob Summers (the organiser) is hoping for even more this time (and says "we might as well tell the council to turn off the Illuminations this year!").

Had a chat with Mandy at Pontins today and explained the Irish party would only be here for the one night and could Pontins accomodate you for the Saturday only.

They said they would but it would cost £35.00 per person for the night, inc dinner and breakfast.Dont know if your interested or not at that price. Let me know and I will set it up, at least you would be with the main group and have access to all the Pontins facilities whilst on site

Comment from Pontins

The rate for the 1 night would be £35.00 per person.

They can only check into their apartments at 4.00 in the afternoon although they
can arrive earlier on centre and use the facilities. And we will allow them to
check out of their apartments on the Sunday at 2.00pm (normal time is 10.00am)

It would be a shame not to have you guys with us
Cheers

Latest numbers from Pontins.

107 people have already booked into Pontins Holiday Camp for the Light Parade weekend. Looks like being a sell out.

Dont miss this awsome event. If your thinking of coming along and plan to stay over, get booked in as soon as possible.

would anyone be interested in a T shirt for the event.
Possibly get some sponsorship from the council and Pontins.
Give me some idea as to how much you would be prepared to spend. I know they can get quite expensive. I have a couple of contacts who could come up with something quite quickly.

Bob, Why not post this event in the new Calendar? That way we won't need reminders when this post drops outa sight. :waving:

Well I've looked at the videos of last years event, girlfriend watched it too and she suggested we go. So I've phoned Mandy, as instructed and booked accommodation,.

We have all the wet weather gear and the bike should be back from the workshop and fully tested by then. This will be my first experience of multiple wings together since Belgian Trffan in 1980, as biking took back stage whilst kids grew up. I am really looking foward to the run up to Blackpool and the chance to interact with you all.

I won't be winning any awards for lights, mine is standard and probably staying that way, but I look foward to seeing everyone elses twinkling away.

Latest numbers from Pontins check in stand at 235. Looks like roughly 100 bikes already commited, should blow last year out the water. I will be posting a full schedule for the event shortly so watch this space.

Hi BOB ,,I would safely say that figure will double :jumper::jumper:,,a lot of us are already booked in ,but there are more to book in ,,who as usual leave it till the last minute :baffled:,,,I know they will not be stuck for accomodation with so many hotels in Blackpool but it is the ferry that I think they may have problems with if they leave it too late ,,as the ferry will only take so many bikes .....But they have been warned :whip::whip:and if they cannot get on a ferry ,they only have themselves to blame ...see ya all in Blackpool...Ciaran:cooler::toast:

Shooters media are currently editing the Light Parade Video/DVD, and from what I've seen so far its terrific. They have provided us with a brief (6MB) trailer of the event and Nigel, North Wings Webmaster, has uploaded it onto the Light Parade website.
If you want to download it, you will find a link to it on the home page:
