First of a big thanks to Dan Filipi for a post a while back with pics of a 1" socket turned to a special tool for a clutch locknut. I had already broken a pair of 90* needle nose when i found this forum.

anyway, just bought a 79 gl1000 definatley a project bike. i'm new to the game and want to make sure i buy quality parts. I spent last summer tooling up a 79 kz 400 from paper weight to motorcycle. I used bike bandit or old bike barn most of the time and ebay when it seemed reasonable.

but, i bought the big bike becuase i want to see some of the country on it and want to know that by the time she's up and running i put in good parts. i need brake pads and clutch plates and some mufflers (that seems an ebay watch and wait) for sure but i imagine i'll see lots of other problems over the summer. thanks for any suggestions. I live in chicago and a local store i could actually walk into sometimes would be cool but the net is fine.
