I was thinking about buying one. Pretty pricey. If you can buy one used in good shape for a decent price... Digital cameras have really come down in price (for what you get), and the mid-level cameras are pretty decent, often having an excellent movie mode, for much less money than the GoPro units. Of course the GoPro advantage is their ruggedness, waterproofness & ease of use.

How odd...

I was just thinking how extraordinarily cheap $299.00 sounds to me. In 1975, I paid $375.00 for a fully manual Minolta SRT-101. In 1987 I paid nearly $450 for a Nikon N2000. In 2002 I paid over $200 for a Sony Cybercam P30 (1.3 megapixel.) In 2006 I paid nearly $400 for Sony V-3. (7.1 megapixels)

In perspective... considering what this thing can do... $299 doesn't really sound all that bad to me. Remember... it comes WITH the waterproof case AND all the mounting fittings.

I guess $300 isn't that bad, but up here in Canuckland you can get very nice 12+ MP SureShot type digital cameras for around $100. The technology is booming along so fast, and electronics coming down in price so quickly, personally I'm leery of spending a lot on a camera. I'm very (self admittedly) frugal when it comes to buying things... if I can get by with something cheaper I'll often make do with that.

I have that camera and I have been very happy with it. I havent edited any of my videos except one I tried out on youtube but that ptogram is minimal at best. The videio quality is outstanding. You can see fine det6ails and it is crisp and clear. The lens is a fish eye type but you really dont notice it too much. The sound quality is OK but the cases that come with it make the sound kinda weak.

After you play around with it you get used to the controls and it gets fairly simple to operate. The only real gripe I have is that the battery dosnt last as long as I would like. I can get about 1 -1 1/2 hours on a full charge. But that is continuous recording. You can get longer times if you use it on and off.

I also have the LCD back screen so I can see what I am aiming at. That drains a little of the battery too when it is on but it shuts off when you dont need to see it.

Here is a sample I put on Youtube. The mount I had it on was not a GOPRO mount. I had it attached to my handle bars and that caused some shaking. It is usually very smooth, just not on this mount. Click the link and have a look.

I hope this helps.

THfireman...

Thanks... good to know. As far as editing is concerned I have access to Adobe CS5 because I teach it... I also have Final Cut Pro... so editiing software isnlt really and issue with me...

If the camera can deliver decent imagery... I'll be happy...

It might be nice to know what a extra battery would cost....

My son has the GoPro and I've been very impressed. Here's an edited video he took at the beginning of the summer. It includes low light and even riding after dark. I believe you'll need to enter it through Facebook.

Here's one from our Colorado trip this summer. I apologize in advance for my kids antics in the first part. This one includes airplane flight, extreme close-ups with semi-wild animals, and some mountain biking down Mt. Hermon.

These cameras amaze me with the quality of video and ease of posting it online.

I say go for it, and let's see what you can put together. I've even thought I'd like to see a thread specifically for members posting videos.
