Seems like everyone I know lives in South Ga or further so this past weekend I was awarded a new riding buddy from my daughter. He will travel on the luggage rack in a soft carrier once he gets big enough to be able to do that.

Right now he's just chewing up stuff and making trouble. Here he is coming back for more of his pp pad after he stole it. I think I'm gonna like this pill of a pillion.

Send him to me, I'll train him to ride in a sidecar!!! Very cute!

My current 3 dogs are not worth training to ride in a hack, need to get rid of them and get something smaller I can train from a pup.

Teach him to ride. We ran into this guy in Ruidoso, NM Sept 2008. Been riding since he was 6 weeks old. Got his own helmet for when the bike is rolling and a hat for when the bike is parked. I wish my dog would ride, she runs when I fire it up...okie

My wife wanted me to let her Pomeranian go for a ride with us. I objected saying that it would probably scare the shiatt out of him and I didn't want to clean that up off the bike. Needless to say she won the argument....

We went for a short ride - about 2 miles. After we got back I couldn't get him off the bike. Now every time I fire it up he whines at the door wanting to go. We took him with us in a soft sided carrier on the luggage rack to Michigan and back 3 years ago. He loved every minute of it. When we were ready to go he would run to the back of the wing and wait for us to pick him up and put him in the carrier.

I never would have thought he would like riding as much as he does. So I say go for it Rudy and start him young. If he doesn't like it then you have a garage companion for when your cleaning/fixing the wing. Either way its a win!!

It's true. Since before the family reunion, the water in the basement and now the puppy, I have been screwing off quite a bit lately.

Hanko, I have a nice black soft sided carrier and stuffed a small cat bed in it. Nice to hear you have already worked it out. Carried him to the vet in it today to see how it works out. It was fine. Now I have to figure out the mount for the bag on the rack because I want it secure, easily detachable and not harm the chrome or paint. How did you mount your carrier?

I'm thinking a leather triangle with a strap coming off each point. Two forward to the forward rack posts and one in the center out the back wrapped around the center of the rear rack bar. the leather will feed through the carrier with the triangle under the cat bed and slots to bring the straps out.

The forward ones to keep it on the rack and the rear one to keep it from bouncing up and down.

At least that is the thinking right now...

Maybe a metal plastic coated hook plate in the rear and heavy double snaps on the two forward straps. When all that's done I have to make some type of window closures for when it's cold and to keep rain off the little guy.

I forgot how much time you have to sit and pay attention to a puppy.

I have to nail up some 1x2's under the deck rail to prevent a squeeze through tomorrow.
Hard to house train if they aren't allowed outside the house.

This thing is like having a ferret! :dude:

I have a long time friend who, for years would never tell us what his middle name was.
Seems he hated his middle name, which turned out after years of prying to be 'Fletcher'. So we knew we had to name our next dog Fletcher. :cooldevil:

And so it is.

Here he is chewing the corners of the bricks on the fireplace... never had a dog chew bricks.
Thought I had termites when I heard it.

Beautiful little pup there Rudy. Vic Belanger and his wife ride with their Bichon Frise quite often. They have a open type soft carrier mounted to the false tank. The dog wears a harness if I remember correctly. Dog loves it. Just another idea. Have fun with Fletcher.

Rudy,

My wife has two industrial Juki sewing machines so she made a ballistics nylon cover for the soft sided carrier. For over 10 years she used to sew the harnesses, traces, booties, packs etc. that are used in the Iditarod races and dog sledding in general.

She sewed in a mesh window with a zipper cover for the side that faces us and a zippered door on the end that faces to the right (as viewed from behind). She sewed on two webbing straps with adjustable clips that go over the top and under the Kury luggage rack. The legs of the rack keep it from sliding anywhere.

You just put the carrier on the back and route the straps under the rack and adjust them on the back to clip in place. Can't pull the thing off!!

When it gets hot we roll down the window and the door. We use small velcro straps to keep them from flapping. We also have found that he appreciates being wet down in 90+ degree weather before we put him in the carrier. The evaporation helps keep him cool!!

If I can find out where she put it I'll post a picture.

Here's my buddy Frank from the PGR and his riding partner, Pepe. He rides on a pad on the gas tank of Frank's Harley right between his legs. He's tethered to Frank by a 10" leash clipped to a belt loop. This dog loves anyone with food and knows how to time an open door to get inside when he detects a/c.
